How to Embed Documents in Office365

One of the great new features with Office365 and SharePoint Online is that Office Web Apps is an integral component in the Enterprise licensing models.  This is great for previewing content especially within your search results page.  But one clever little extra is being able to embed a document in to a standard SharePoint page.

My example uses a PowerPoint file but this can be done with other Office documents.  To do this then follow these simple steps for adding to a page.

  •  Upload your document in to the document library and when it is available click to show the preview pane.
  • When the preview pane appears click on the book icon to show us three options with that document.  Choose the ‘Embed Information’ option and this will show the code we need to extract.

  • Now copy and paste this code in to a code snippet area or content editor web part.  If you want to change the size of the document then this can also be included in the embed code within the width='350px' and height='221px' sections.

  • Finally publish your changes to the page for an embedded view of your document.
